Aishwarya Rai Biography

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan was born on November 1, 1973 in Mangalore, India. She was raised by a traditional South Indian family, who are generally involved in Indian fashion/modeling. Therefore, Aishwarya Rai started her modeling career at a young age. She initially modeled for many prestigious firms, such as the Garden Sari and the Pepsi ads which started her fame. In 1994, she was crowned Miss Indian Runner Up, and was also a favorite in the run for Miss World Title which she won. Her brilliance gained attention world wide, and people started to refer to her as India’s Darling.

Aishwarya Rai has proven to not only be brilliant in looks, but also in acting. With her acting debut on Iruvar (1997) under her belt, she began landing roles in larger production including Aur Pyaar Ho Gaya (1997) for which she won the Screen best female debut Award. She also starred in many movies like Taal, Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam, and Devdas. Her success in Bollywood has opened many doors for young Aishwarya, and she is now becoming an international success. For example, a wax figure of Rai was on display in London's Madame Tussaud's wax museum during october 2004. Rai has also been a regular at the Cannes Film Festival since 2002, and was a member of the Jury at Cannes in 2003.

Aishwarya attended the Arya Vidya Mandir at Santacruz, Mumbai, then entered Ruparel College, Matunga, Mumbai. There, she was planning to attend professional school, however personal circumstances prevented her from doing so.

On January 14, 2007, her engagment to Abhishek Bachchan was announced official. They tied the knot on April 20, 2007 in a private ceremony held at the Bachchans' bungalow “Prateeksha”.
